I went scrolling through the Book Soup website again and guess what I found?

9/28/2010 - 8:00pm
Event Details:
Book Soup and Cinefamily present Take 100: The Future of Film at Cinefamily

Book Soup and Cinefamily present the L.A. launch of the brand-new book Take 100: The Future Of Film, the first global film festival ever attempted between two covers, along with a live panel discussion featuring film directors Jody Hill (Observe and Report, Eastbound And Down), The Duplass Brothers (Cyrus, Baghead, The Puffy Chair) and Taika Waititi (Eagle vs. Shark)! Published by Phaidon, Take 100 is a 450-page, richly-illustrated tome that features the work of 100 of the world’s most promising new film directors, as selected by ten esteemed film-festival director “curators”. Whether you’re a film professional or a casual moviegoer, Take 100 will guide you through today's must-see films and directors. The evening’s panel is moderated by esteemed curator Trevor Groth (Director of Programming for the Sundance Film Festival) -- and join us after the show for a book signing on the Cinefamily backyard Spanish patio!

For ticket information, click on the book cover!

It's going to be held at the Silent Movie Theatre off of Fairfax and tickets are $12 for non-Cinefamily members. Any L.A. peeps in?

I'm really excited now! #excited# I don't recall hearing of any fans meeting Taika...until now.

I saw what you posted on FB. I'd love to accompany you to that Winnipeg event if only it wasn't thousands of miles away. I hope you find someone to go with you.

Director: Taika Waititi
New Zealand | 2009 | 88 minutes | English
D.C. Premiere

Inspired by the director’s Oscar-nominated short film, Two Cars, One Night, Boy is a charming, coming-of-age film about a pre-teen boy who lives with his grandmother, his brother, Rocky, and several deserted cousins. The story takes place in the year 1984 on the rural East Coast of New Zealand, where pop star Michael Jackson’s Thriller is influencing kids’ lives. Boy fantasizes about his absent father, spinning outlandish tales about his dad’s adventures to schoolmates. But when his father, Alamein, (played by the director himself), unexpectedly returns home after seven years, Boy is forced to abandon his illusions and see his father for who he truly is. Taika Waititi’s quirky, humorous, and heartwarming Boy was nominated for the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and is the winner of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk Grand Prix for Best Feature Film at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival and of the Audience Award for Fiction Feature Film at the Sydney Film Festival 2010. Boy has been a smash hit in New Zealand theaters, out-grossing such films as Alice In Wonderland and Avatar.

“…lifted by Waititi’s heartwarming & hilarious flights of whimsy.” — Vanity Fair

“alternating zany, sentimental, and remarkably insightful” — indieWIRE

“…a crowd pleasing film.” — Hollywood Reporter
