Two of New Zealand's most recognisable entertainers are giving the shirts off their backs for a good cause.

Or in the case of comedian Rhys Darby of Flight of the Conchords' fame - five shirts. And one of them could be yours.

But if Darby's style isn't what you fancy, there's the Cheryl West option: two shirts worn by Robyn Malcolm's character on the hit TV show Outrageous Fortune. Still not convinced? Then how about US rocker Alice Cooper's T-shirt?

It's all part of Loud Shirt Day, the annual appeal of The Hearing House and Southern Cochlear Implant Paediatric Programme. Each year up to 170 New Zealand children are born with a hearing problem, a figure expected to increase as newborn hearing screening programmes become established across the country.

For one week from Tuesday, the shirts, signed by Darby and Malcolm, will be auctioned on online auction site TradeMe.

And be warned, the shirts from Darby's wardrobe feature a wide variety of animals, outer space scenes and fish and the Cheryl West contributions contain see-through black lace.

In addition, there is a competition for which entrants must film themselves wearing a loud shirt. The winner, judged by Darby, will win a signed T-shirt featuring a roaring dinosaur.

Entrants should post shirt videos on YouTube and email loudshirtday@hearinghouse.co.nz with the link.

I’ve been wanting to mention this.. every time I watch the NBC Nighty News their new corespondent [Chuck Todd] pops up. I’m not sure if its me, but he looks strikingly similar to Murray from Flight of the Conchords. I enjoy a laugh from serious news topics just by comparison. Congratulations Murray, you made it big!

Rhys was also on the Jaquie Brown Diaries:

Episode two – Night on the Brown

After interviewing NZ’s latest Hollywood export Terence Ben’et (Rhys Darby), Jaquie thinks she’s made a love connection. Kim insists it’s all part of his professional charm but she’s determined to prove her wrong when they all attend the inaugural 42 below Winter wonderland party. However when Tom gatecrashes the event they discover that he’s the one with the connection to Terence.

Guest starring Rhys Darby and Bill & Ben (Pulp Sport)

This is the most random mention of Rhys, hands down.

Teens rescued from cliff inlet on North Shore
By MICHAEL FIELD - Stuff
Last updated 16:07 09/04/2010

Two teenage girls caught in a cliff inlet on Auckland's North Shore have been rescued.

The teens, aged about 13 or 14, were trapped by the incoming tide at Little Shoal Bay, at Birkenhead on the north coast of Waitemata Harbour about 10km north of downtown Auckland, just before 3pm.

Police coastal master of Graham Jex says the girls were exploring the western area of the bay when they became stuck on a ledge beneath a cliff face with the tide coming in.

"We just ran up to the shore and picked them up," he says.

Mr Jex says the girl sustained no injuries.

The mini-drama played out this afternoon in the bay as Flight of the Conchords Rhys Darby was near, filing a romantic-comedy called Love Birds. Co starring with British actress Sally Hawkins it is billed as a "charming, bitter-sweet romantic comedy".

Who should replace Steve Carell in 'The Office'?

Rhys Darby -- Darby may not be quite as familiar as some of the other names on our list, but to anyone who caught his portrayal of wannabe band manager Murray Hewitt on 'Flight of the Conchords' knows, the New Zealand comedian has perfected an unparalleled mix of enthusiasm and cluelessness. That should serve him perfectly in the world of middle management, don't you think?

Other "contenders": Ricky Gervais, John Oliver, John Hodgman and Tom Cruise.
